The latest and greatest.

I was cleared by my physical therapist today to start doing the sports that I would normally be doing pre-surgery!! So I started with a ride on Snodgrass - which is a gorgeous intermediate single track here in CB - I brought the Helmet Cam to memorialize the journey- and (as soon as I get a new computer) I'll be posting the edited movie shortly. Here's a pic of Mt. Crested Butte (our home) about halfway through the ride.

Liz is doing well at Fantasy Ranch - she's wrangling up a storm. The guests love her - which is to be expected!

I'm currently still consulting for Eric (my old boss) and am in negotiations with The Alpineer and Telemarkski.com to be their tech guy.... it could be fun. I'm also still working with the local papers to see if I can get my foot in the door for photography. I also started flying again - which has been fun - my flight instructor happens to be the charter pilot for the area - and he has invited me along to fly right seat on his charter flights!

Liz's softball team - KBUT 90.3 (the local radio station) beat the number 1 team in the league tonight - that's exciting!

We went fishing up by Lake City on the Lake Fork of the Gunnison - but didn't catch anything - despite monster trout hitting on the surface every 30 secs... hate that. Sunday I had what may well have been the largest fish I've ever had online - but lost it... hate that too.

Driving the big rig...

Here's Liz driving the 5th wheel with the 12 horse trailer... trivia - Why is it called a fifth wheel? First correct answer gets a drink when they come to visit!

OOOOhhh pretty wildflowers... it's wildflower festival time and where are you?? Not here... blthhh!

Liz and Ken balancing by the secret waterfall.

The secret waterfall - down from an abandoned mine.

One last parting shot... oooh it's gorgeous here. I went fly fishing today and caught 13 fish! Though all but 2 were less than 8" long... but it was glorious nonetheless.

Working as an EMT

We started with the Crested Butte Search and Rescue Team last night www.crestedbuttesar.org which was a blast. They're a solid group of people that were all incredibly welcoming.

We start with the volunteer ambulance crew this Thursday.

Sweet.

Fourth of July

Yesterday was one long day of revelry. Our first true day of pure celebration.... well... impure would be more accurate.

First we went to the CBFD's pancake breakfast - followed by beer - followed by the parade - more beer - followed by an afternoon of playing croquet and guitar with my buddy Mark - with a night cap overlooking the entire town to watch the fireworks.

Check out Ken on his hot "ass" - Liz just got a job today working with this guy up at Fantasy Ranch... sounds dreamy. It is - it's gonna be a fun job. Ken has been a great guy to have around - he leaves July 17th and Liz is being trained as his replacement. Ken helped lead the ride that my parents went on while they were out here.

The parade had it's dirt jump with fire float of course...

Oh, and the snowboard rail jam float as well... cause really - what is a Fourth of July parade without one?

The last 2 blocks of the parade were the wet zone... where the firetrucks parked and sprayed the crowds... everyone got soaked... That's Liz in the cowboy hat - Mouna in the hot glasses - our roommate Phillipa with the rock and roll fan pose and Marcos in the one lensed glasses. Mouna was in our EMT class and was an instant friend to both Liz and I - unfortunately she left today to go back to Chicago... but the seed has been planted - she'll move. Oh yes... she'll move. Phillipa has been a great roommate - she's laid back, honest, and genuine - which is good. Marcos makes a mean sushi roll - the best sushi that I've ever had in my life was made by this guy right here....

Slow to update

Sorry for the lack of updates... here's the word as it was thought by me:

Looking back I seem to have forgotten to mention that I went to LA with all the slags from college it was fantastically entertaining and left me smiling from ear to ear - here are some pics to relish the moment with: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=14rdrxsi.4534slcy&x=0&y=pnw8v5

Oh and we also went to the downhill race on the mountain the weekend before the tests:

So the tests went well last Monday. I missed one point out of 240 on my practical exam and got a 93 on my written - not too shabby. The NREMT exam was Monday night and I have no idea how I did on that being that it was HORRIBLE - it had a severe case of chronic ambiguity that I would wish on no one. So I'd like to say that I'm an EMT.... but it's not official till I get those results back. I would find it hard to believe that I missed more than 45 (which is the max one can miss and still get the required 70% to pass).

The Wilderness add-on started the next morning and continued till the 30th - it was exciting and a bit more logicial. Wilderness protocols allow for an EMT to give injections, clear spine injuries and more - which makes it a bit more interesting -albeit a lot of it is common sense.

Thursday night we had a night rescue on the mountain which was fun. We responded to the scene of a rock slide and managed the victims - granted it was a drill - it was still exciting - it's amazing what you can do with make-up.
