The return from the knife

So Friday was a bad day... went in for surgery - oh how I hate waking up from anesthesia - but at least I woke up! Apparently the tear was bigger than we had initially thought. 1.5 inches along the exterior of the medial meniscus. Dr. Halbrecht (dressed in her alligator shoes) had to use two different types of sutures - one inside out and the other all-in. I'll have pictures from the scope of the inside of my knee tomorrow.

I slept the majority of the afternoon and don't remember much else. Slept well with the aid of percocets and the local pain blocker that she had given me. Saturday was a little less pleasant - the pain blocker was gone and the percocets weren't incredibly effective. Sunday was better, much better. Mom and Liz have been waiting on me hand on foot - which has been nice ;)

Today we went to the Cardiologist for a follow-up and then off to the orthopedic surgeon for the post-op. Both went well - the cardiologist said the same things over again and reviewed my ECG, stress test, and echocardiogram with me. He wants me to come back in 6 months to see if things have changed. If they have then I have cause for concern - if they haven't then I should be happy as a clam untill they put a pacemaker in when I'm 65... The orthopedic surgeon gave me my script for my PT which will start as soon as I can get in. I was finally able to take a shower this afternoon!! Oh to be clean.

Now we just have to decide how everything else is going to work with this newly developed handicap... no more mtn bike patrol for me. So I've applied to be one of the Recruiting managers for Crested Butte Mountain... figure I can do that with a bum knee.

Mark, I think you should shave the other leg! Thanks for the update.
