Fishing - leaving...

We went fly fishing on the Lake Fork yesterday - it was gorgeous - we both caught fish - Liz caught a bunch I only caught 4 or so... Fun to get back out fishing for the season.

We leave Thursday for Sedona, AZ to go Mtn Biking and soak up some energy from the Vortices there... I've heard it's some of the best mountain biking in the country - some say that it's even better than Moab or Fruita. We'll see.

After Sedona we're heading to Havasu Falls - http://www.utah.com/nationalparks/grand_canyon/havasu.htm

It's a 10 mile backpack down into the Grand Canyon to 3 of the most spectacular waterfalls in the US. Should be gorgeous - and relaxing. We'll post pics I'm sure.

In the meantime - some fishing pictures:

Liz's Lunker
My mediocre sized trout - I think I need to learn to hold them for better picture taking...

She got her hairs cut!

She's a cutey with her short hair! She donated 12 inches to locks for love... holy spring hair cut batman! Change is good. I shaved my beard - but that just makes me look like a teenager and isn't worth posting a picture:)

If you know Steve Bunnell - you should watch UVNU - their latest episode of their weekly video news blog is hillarious: http://www.uvnu.net/season2/UVNU034.html - watch it!

Random Ski shots from the season

Ode to a ski season that lacked snow - but didn't lack good times...

Stick a Fork in it...

We closed the mountain on Sunday and took everything down on Monday. Thus ends one of the worst seasons Crested Butte has ever had... good thing it was our first one living here... sheesh.

Things can only get better from here right? Unless Al Gore is right... and Crested Butte turns into a high desert due to lack of moisture.

Of course it has snowed pretty much every day since we closed. Irony at its best.

On to the mud season....

CB SAR Flight for Life Training

We had flight for life training with CB Search and Rescue. It was fun. Here are the pics:

Patrolled yesterday which was good - it's been super warm - so everything is starting to close - skiing on snirt (snow + dirt) or maybe slirt (slush + dirt) or maybe slud (slush + mud).

We have our patrol party tonight - Flauschink starts as well - which is the partying that happens as the season comes to a close. The festival starts with a Coronation ball where the Flauschink King and Queen are announced - then Polka dancing at the local bars (I'm completely serious) - then a parade on Saturday - then a huge party on the ski hill for the last day of the season - it will be fun I'm sure....

Hope all is well with everyone.

Eric and Sarah Reed have a new blog - for those that care it can be found here:

The Elk Mountain Grand Traverse

The weekend was pretty crazy with around 8" of snow in the high country where we were at the Friends Hut. It was a 10 mile slog on AT gear up to the hut with full backpacks with food and medical supplies. The Grand Traverse race is ridiculous - I have no inkling of wanting to do it - one of my friends from CB who is also on Patrol did it and got severe frostbite on all of his fingers and his left toes... it's bad. We're hoping he gets to keep them all.

The race started at the base of Crested Butte Resort - they then skinned up a black diamond to the top - then skied down - then across a huge meadow - across a creek - across another creek - across Death Pass which is all dirt and rocks (so they ran) then up more huge mountain meadows - across another stream - then to the friends hut - which is where Liz and I were stationed - then up Star Pass - then in white-out conditions to Taylor pass and then to the Barnard Hut for one last medical check before climbing Richmond Ridge - and dropping down the front side of Ajax (Aspen Mountain)... craziness I tell you.

We got back late Saturday and we've been resting ever since (being that the race started at 12am - we were up for almost 2 days straight...)

I've posted all of the pictures: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=14rdrxsi.9i19e9k6&x=0&y=u9y87u

Latest update is that Mark Selto may have to have his middle finger amputated... he leaves for Boulder tomorrow to see a specialist.
